Although it is one of the smaller Spanish airports, the Reus Airport is growing in volume with each passing year. Since 1998, it has gone from servicing only 500,000 passengers annually to 1.1 million (nearly 23,000 flights) in 2006. For those with a final destination of Barcelona, a connecting flight into the more economical Reus Airport can provide substantial savings. The drive from the airport into the Barcelona city centre will take approximately one hour, depending on traffic and time of day.
Considered the gateway to Spain’s scenic Costa Daurada beaches, the Reus Airport is located just 3 kilometers from the city of Reus, 13 kilometers from Tarragona, and 80 kilometers south of Barcelona. Reus airport also offers easy access to such tourist attractions as Salou, Port Aventura theme park, and Cambrils.
In recent years, REU has invested in a significant amount of upgrades and updates to provide their increasing number of customers with greater conveniences. Modernizations have included a sleek new arrivals terminal, a handy check-in area near the departure terminal, and a children’s play area outside the departures terminal to keep the little ones occupied while waiting for their flights. The Reus Airport is a single-level terminal, and much smaller and easier to navigate than the larger, three-terminal Barcelona Airport. Inside the terminal, amenities include a café, two gift shops, travel assistants, a currency exchange booth, an ATM, and a first-aid station.
Reus Airport sees most of its activity between the months of May and October. Most of their passenger traffic is derived from internal Spanish flights (primarily to and from Madrid) or from international charter flights from UK and Germany. Ryan Air, a discount airline, offers flights into Reus Airport from several European destinations.
